Structural Staff Engineer - Englewood, CO

CTL|Thompson, Inc. is seeking a Structural Staff Engineer for full-time employment with our Centennial, CO office. The Staff Engineer will work on completing design projects primarily involved with commercial, residential, and municipal structures. They will be responsible for planning, designing, and analyzing the structural components and systems within a structure to achieve design goals. They will use computer-aided design software to analyze loads, perform engineering analysis and develop structural models and construction documents.  

Staff Engineers are paid an annual salary between $60,000.00 and $85,000.00 plus discretionary bonuses. Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Perform engineering analysis on residential, commercial, and municipal structures.
  • Prepare and check structural design calculations, computer models, and plans.
  • Use computer software to draft framing plans, foundation plans and details.  
  • Use relevant software to aid with project analysis.
  • Design structures utilizing steel, timber and reinforced concrete design.
  • Consider the strength of construction materials and choose which to use appropriately.
  • Perform load tracking on structures.
  • Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineers and architects to develop coordinated designs.
  • Prepare reports, letters, and plans for clients.
  • Attend project meetings.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills and ability to learn new software in a timely manner.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent knowledge of current code requirements.
  • Experience with AutoCAD.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to gather, analyze and understand geological data.
  • Understanding of construction means and methods.
  • Strong mathematical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate and work well with a team.

Education and Experience:

  • B.S in Civil Engineering or related engineering field.
  • EI designation or ability to obtain it within 6 months for employees who have a qualifying engineering discipline degree.
  • 0-5 years of relative engineering experience.

Preferred Experience:

  • At least 3 months of experience in an Engineering Field Technician, Engineering Design, and/or Construction position.

Work Environment:

This job operates in both an outside, field environment, and in an office setting. Regular work on computers while in the office. While working in the field, will be exposed to extreme weather conditions, including rain, snow, cold and heat. Routinely uses PPE and other safety equipment. Work will primarily be project focused but client interactions will be required. 

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
  • Ability to walk around constructions sites with uneven and varying terrain.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
