About this job:
Broad responsibility for leading a team of managers to execute against the overall business plan, based on guidance from leadership. Directs, plans and oversees team initiatives, to ensure implementation and administration of programs align with district goals.
This role oversees the district’s reporting and research team, and ensures that student outcome data is transformed into high-quality, actionable analytics that support district and school leadership in making decisions that drive student learning. The Director develops and implements a vision that spans the entire data generation process, starting with intake and continuing through cleaning, research design, analysis, inference and presentation of findings.
**The Director must demonstrate a willingness to sign a confidentiality agreement. This role requires maintaining the highest level of confidentiality regarding all District matters, especially those involving the Superintendent, Chief of Staff, and the Board of Education. Ensuring trust and discretion is paramount to the success and integrity of this position.

What You'll Do:

Oversees a team whose functions include designing analyses, research approaches, and strategy based on district priorities and needs. Draws inferences based on data and leads teams in highlighting key findings for stakeholders, including the District Leadership Team. Ensures analytic approaches are statistically sound and fit the research design. Also verifies that the team’s products and services are high quality and impactful in order to drive district and school improvement towards meeting the district’s goals

Develops and implements a short- and long-term vision and strategy for reporting, research, and program evaluation. Leverages relationships to identify district needs and designs projects to meet them. Manages the creation of results output (e.g., reports, spreadsheets, dashboards, etc.) that support users in analyzing and interpreting their data. Partners with Communications to develop messaging and talking points

Monitors the team’s data intake processes and back-end systems, ensuring continued upkeep and maintenance, and liaises with vendors to help troubleshoot issues. Responsible for ensuring the implementation of the modernization of data warehouses, code base, and documentation; dedicates the necessary capacity, defines strategy and tasks, and holds team accountable to the defined transition timeline

Develop and maintain project plans to track progress on key milestones, reprioritizes work based on evolving stakeholder needs, and identifies and implements efficiency improvements in team processes. Determines opportunities for innovation in reporting and research practices and pushes teams to creatively problem solve

Supports direct reports in their responsibilities and the management of their teams, provides leadership and oversight, and is responsible for their continued professional development and growth. Creates and fosters a cohesive, collaborative, and motivating team culture and ensures the same for all sub-teams

Effectively builds strong, collaborative relationships with stakeholders across all levels of the organization to understand and provide for their data and research needs. Proactively communicates plans and status updates

Synthesizes results and presents findings to the superintendent and members of the senior leadership team to provide common understanding and facilitate action planning

Develops partnerships and liaises with external stakeholders, including Colorado Department of Education (CDE), other city agencies, and research groups and universities. Represents the district in associated meetings and activities
What You’ll Need:
-
Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related area (e.g., sociology, statistics, psychology, economics, policy).
-
5+ years of experience in data analysis, statistics, operations analytics, policy analysis, dashboard creation
-
3+ years of people management or supervisory experience
-
Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations
-
Experience in analyzing data, and using this data to for process and program improvements and to inform strategy

Outstanding facilitation and communication skills, including ability to inspire others

Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including the ability to lead a high-performing team

Superior leadership, coaching and mentoring skills

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with individuals at all different levels in the organization

Experience in K-12 education

Proficiency with Microsoft Office/Google products including Word, Excel, Outlook, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides.

Proficiency with statistical analysis coding languages/software (e.g., R, SQL, SAS, SPSS, STATA, Python, etc.)
