About this job:

Responsible for maintaining the operational and transactional responsibilities of the department. Manages the coordination of day to day activities of a specific business function. Primary emphasis is achieving results by building engagement and empowering their teams. May have exposure for district wide initiatives.

 

Leads a team of database specialists who are responsible for ingesting critical data from applications, multiple assessment vendors, and the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) into a warehouse environment and preparing the data for consumption. This includes establishing and implementing high standards for data ingestion, quality, accuracy, and efficiency and monitoring the ongoing maintenance of critical back-end systems that underpin the work, including the transition of student outcome data to the cloud. The Manager also works with stakeholders to translate business needs into reporting and analytic tasks, particularly in support of the ongoing development of the high-impact School Vitals dashboard and other Principal Portal reports.

What You'll Do:

  • Manages department databases, data intake processes, and the ongoing maintenance of data sources. Implements district data solutions to load data into Enterprise Data architecture. Leads the team to innovate by identifying and implementing efficiency improvements in team and data storage processes

  • Maintains expert knowledge of developments in the fields of education, business, and information processing in order to improve and update business processes in District data systems, including transitioning current district server databases, data, and load/extraction processes to the cloud via the Data Modernization Project

  • Track changes to assessments and state reporting requirements and timelines. Understand and relate implications across teams and data sources in order to meet expectations on reporting to district leaders, departments, state and federal work groups

  • Liaise with vendors, including state and federal partners, to extract and load data in accordance with district timelines and processes; resolve extraction and load problems with vendors and vendor software, and update internal processes to accommodate vendor changes to ensure no lag in district reporting requirements

  • Coordinates business analysis to translate stakeholder needs into business rules and data definitions that outline the parameters for data requests and other projects. Drives the development of School Vitals Dashboard and other portal reports via business analysis in collaboration with the Department of Technology Services (DoTs) and ensuring the proper flow of the necessary data into the student information system

  • Effectively builds strong, collaborative relationships with stakeholders across all levels of the organization to provide appropriate analytic support, including prioritization and fulfillment of data requests by querying data and providing spreadsheets and reports

  • Supports direct reports in their responsibilities, provides training and guidance, and is responsible for their continued professional development and growth. Creates and fosters a cohesive, collaborative, and motivating team culture.Develop and maintain project plans to track progress on key milestones, reprioritizes work based on evolving stakeholder needs

  • In collaboration with the Assessment Team, provide accurate, timely support for assessment administration, including rosters, testing lists, student biographical data validation, and other assessment data submissions to the State of Colorado.

What You’ll Need:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related area (e.g., sociology, statistics, psychology, economics, policy), preferred.

  • 2+ years of experience in data warehousing, data cleaning, data analysis, data management, business intelligence, dashboard creation

  • 2+ years of people management or supervisory experience

  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations

  • Strong organizational and analytic skills and strong attention to detail

  • Self-starter/leader who can anticipate department needs in a proactive (versus, reactive) manner

  • Ability to develop and interpret data and manage resources

  • Ability to motivate and influence others and effectively lead a team

  • Ability to multi-task and juggle management of several high-priority projects in parallel

  • High degree of integrity in handling confidential information

  • Proficiency with Google products including Word, Excel, Outlook, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides.

  • Ability to present complex information to diverse audiences

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including the ability to lead a high-performing team

  • Experience in K-12 education

  • Demonstrated proficiency with analysis coding languages/software (e.g., R, SQL, SAS, SPSS, STATA, Python, etc.)

  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, PowerBI, etc.
