Salary Range: $68,448 - $82,139

About this job:

 

Provides school and department leaders with financial oversight and guidance for federal, state, and private grants. Ensures compliance with applicable grant regulations and spending guidelines across multiple programs and departments. Areas of accountability include budget development, forecasting spend, financial management and analysis, as well as financial reporting and monitoring to flag potential compliance concerns.

What You'll Do:

 

  • Work proactively to identify potential areas of concern and develop creative, outside the box solutions and ensure understanding of requests and changes from various stakeholders with the ability to communicate necessary changes to all impacted parties.    

  • Provide guidance and training to school and department personnel (Grant Specialists, Grant Managers, school leaders, department leaders) in the implementation and management of their respective grants, including fiscal stewardship responsibilities. This requires cross-functional knowledge of a multitude of programs and schools/departments.

  • Assist schools, departments, and Financial Partners in the preparation of grant budgets and forecasts to ensure spending is in compliance with all grant requirements. Ensure accuracy of all spend and forecasts in the system in support of district-wide reporting and analysis.

  • Assist schools and departments with the preparation of financial reporting due to funders. Responsible for review and preliminary financial approval of all financial reports required for supported grants. This includes acting as the primary resource for the Director of Grants Administration if questions or concerns arise around the financial reporting or use of funds.

  • Provide the school or department Financial Partner with the necessary information for the monthly budget meetings with department heads, school leaders, and senior leadership, including pertinent analysis of grant cliffs and variance explanations where spending is not in line with forecasts.

  • Document processes and procedures, including implementation of process improvements where possible.    

  • Facilitate regular meetings with each assigned Grant Specialist, Grant Manager and/or school or department leaders in regards to their use of specific grants. This position provides direct support and advanced guidance such as: identifying risks, discussing key issues and variances, allowable use of funds, developing the grant budget, and facilitating discussion on upcoming goals, spending needs or changes as required.

  • Support with A-133 and grantor financial audits and site visits, including the preparation of schedules and compilation of supporting documents as needed.

  • Form strong relationships and collaborate with people at all levels within DPS, including support for other areas as needed.

What You’ll Need:

 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Business preferred.

  • Three (3) or more years of experience in Budgeting, accounting, and data analysis as well as research and evaluation skills utilizing automated systems (experience in governmental accounting and budgeting environment preferred).    

  • Strong organizational and analytic skills and strong attention to detail.

  • Effective time management and organizational skills.

  • Ability to communicate diplomatically, persuasively through effective verbal, written and presentation skills.

  • Ability to work in a multi-ethnic and multicultural environment with district and school leaders, faculty, staff and students.

  • Self-starter/leader who can anticipate department needs in a proactive (versus, reactive) manner.

  • Effectively handles multiple demands, projects and competing deadlines.

  • Ability to set goals, work independently and drive results.

  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations.

  • High degree of integrity in handling confidential information.

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and proficiency in other Microsoft Office is required as well as familiarity with Google Apps including Google Sheets.
